What are some creative uses for an old computer case?

Posted by admin On September - 29 - 2009

I have an 8 year-old computer case that I’ve completely gutted, so that there’s nothing but the optical drive chassis and power button left in it. I’m in hopes that I can find a creative way to still be able to use this tower for. I’m working on a budget of $100 or less. Any and all ideas for this project would be much appreciated.
NOTE: I have neither the time or the need to build it into a computer again. So please don’t make suggestions along these lines.

How bout a fish tank?

or if you don’t own fish you can use it as a flower pot.

Might i recommend using it to store your dvds in or make a gumball machine out of it.

When I put the power supply into my computer case do I need that bar that stretches from side to side at the top of the case? Or, are there screws that I would use to screw the power supply to the case? Will it stay in place even if I don’t have a power supply supporter bar? How do I get the power supply to stay in place? Thank you.

Most power supplies have four screws that keep it from moving around. These are generally four screws around the fan exhaust area on the back of the CPU chassis.

However, some CPU cases have some sort of stabilizer bar that keeps the power supply pressed snugly against the case bottom, along with between 2-4 screws.

Ideally, you should read the manual or paperwork that came with your PC or power supply, and it will tell you how to install the unit, and whether the extra bar is needed.

What you do NOT want is that power supply to be at all loose in the case. If you move the case around and the power supply shifts, it could damage the other boards in the case, or possibly even short something out, causing a fire or giving someone a nasty shock.

If you are unsure about the proper installation of the power supply, I would ask at a nearby computer store (perhaps where you bought the unit?), at the website for the manufacturer of the PC or power supply, or even at a local Computer Science department of a community college.

Whats the most expensive computer case you have bought?

Posted by admin On September - 25 - 2009

I have an thermalrock eclipse case @$250 dollars. What is the most expensive case you’ve bought for your precious computer parts to live in? My friends dont think much of it, they think its cool but they all have pretty much $100 cases themselves. Apart from the obvious benifits of cooling would anyone else buy a case worth $250+ purerly on aesthetic qualities?

Two years ago I purchased an Originae X11 HTPC case. It cost $300. http://www.origenae.com/en/htpc_x11.htm

Aluminum construction, comes with a vacuum fluorescent display, an IR sensor, and a remote control so you can turn the computer on and off remotely and change TV channels on the TV tuner card when using Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition.

Basically it’s for those of us who wants to have a computer as part of a home theater setup (hence HTPC– Home Theater PC). That’s why the case looks like a home theater rack component.

i plan on upgrading on a new case/frame. i use my computer for EVERYTHING, gaming, modeling, homework, simulation, movies, everything. i have lots of spare hardware i would like to see added, got any ideas on a sweet case to throw it all in? i got an ATX board, with 2 DVD-RW drives, a memory card reader that takes up a floppy bay, and i would like to add my 5 inch and 3 inch floppy drives added, just for a retro feel to the system, no PSU and the biggest you can find, but no server stuff

I’m modifying a computer case for my brother. We are discussing several mounting options and are needed to find a way to easily and precisely cut the sheet metal of the case. And inexpensive too if possible (under $100).

We need to be able to cut out precise squares without damaging the metal around. For cutting out circles, we have figured on wood/metal holes saws.
One thought is to get a router attachment for my dremel and some rotary file attachments.

Find any asbestos in your Eureka Ez Clean vacuum lately? have another look behind the hepa filter.

It says referb and then has a sticker on it…. wonder why containers are coming from East with asbestos plates inside and shiny stickers outside?

Take your project to a sheetmetal place and they will probably cut it out for free for you if you buy the metal there. Make it out of copper it would be freaky cool.

Did I tell you I found 2 pieces of Asbestos type material in my Eureka Vacuum I bought. Pretty odd, going to get them tested for sure!

How do you fix a scratched plastic window on a computer case?

Posted by admin On September - 20 - 2009

On my Antec 900 computer case, I have noticed that my side window, made from plastic, received small scratches after I cleaned a thin layer of dust off of it. What can I do to fill them in? I know that it will be tougher to fill them in than it would be to fill in scratches on colored plastics. Thanks for your help!
Never clean plexi with anything other than plexiglass cleaner. I’m surprised this wasn’t noted in the case’s user guide.

Apevia X-Cruiser ATX Black Mid-Tower Case

Posted by admin On September - 16 - 2009

The Apevia X-Cruiser was my first computer case purchase! I still use it on my main computer, I love everthing about it. This case has great airflow and never heats up over 30 degrees Celsius. What I truly liked about this case was the large size, it’s has lots of room for you to work in and install hardware easily. Another feature I love about this product is it’s internal thermometer, it has a gauge in the front of the case telling me the temperature in my case.  If your looking to buy a new case for the first time, I would definitly suggest going with this case!

You can have this case for only $74.99!

Still have some questions? Check out an unboxing video found of this product!

How much does an alienware computer case cost?

Posted by admin On September - 15 - 2009

I am planning to buy an alienware computer case. I want to know the average price of one. ANSWER QUICK PLEASE.
Personally, I think that they look very gaudy. But they usually run from $50-$200 on eBay.
